The House of Representatives
In sum, there are a total of 435 representatives in the House of Representatives. In the House, representation is based on the number of people living in each state. Each state is divided up into congressional districts based upon the population of the state and each district elects one representative. Therefore, states with larger populations have more representation than states with smaller populations.

In order to be elected as a representative you must be at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen for the past 7 years, and you must live in the state that you represent.

Each representative serves a term of 2 years. When the term is over, people from that district of the state may choose to elect a new representative or keep the same one. There is no limit on the number of terms a representative can serve.

Powers of the House of Representatives include the sole responsibility to create laws in order to collect taxes from people in the United States. They also have the ability to decide if a government official should be put on trial before the Senate for crimes against the country (as in the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal in 1998).
