The government of the United States of America is divided into three branches to prevent any one branch from gaining too much power.

Judicial
The Executive Branch is in charge of carrying out the laws and ideas set forth by Congress.

The leaders of the Executive Branch are the President and Vice-President of the United States. They are also aided by the President’s Cabinet.

The Legislative Branch is in charge of making laws for the nation and this lawmaking body is known as Congress.

Congress consists of two parts, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The Judicial Branch makes decisions about the meaning of the law and consists of a system of courts.

The highest of these courts is the U.S. Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is made up of 9 judges.
